Train Station

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Pearse Street/Westland Row Train station caters for both Irish Rail and DART trains.

To improve light levels and uniformity as well as energy saving and better maintenance, WideBay Luminaires with high output Pulse Metal Halide lamps were recently installed on the instructions of Irish Rail.  The higher vertical Lux levels achieved also provide a comfort and safety advantage, as the sides of the Train including the Doors are better illuminated.

The WideBay is widely used in Industrial projects.   A recessed version is available for the Clean Room or Food Industries, especially with Insulated Panel ceilings.

City Centre Bollards

Robust stainless steel bollards with 4 vertical illuminated were installed in several streets in the centre of Waterford, including O’Connell Street and Michael Street, and also in Kilkenny.  They provide illumination and also have a positive architectural effect.

Available in various heights and with LED or Compact Fluorescent lamps,  the Luminaire can be supplied in Aluminium or Stainless Steel.

Typical applications include Hotels, pedestrian areas, pathways, Retail centres, corporate offices, etc.  They can be controlled by Sensors to switch off (or to 10% output) when there is no local traffic.

Following similar successful schemes at Cork and Galway, High illumination levels with good uniformity were achieved on Dundalk Greyhound Track using Excelite luminaires. With minimum column clutter, the scheme was designed with Pole locations to minimise visual obstructions.

The Excelite is also available with a highly efficient Street light optic suitable for street or carpark applications.

Large Swimming Pool

The University of Limerick has an olympic size Swimming Pool as part of its extensive Sports facilities. IL Series luminaires were chosed by Specifiers (Arups) to provide high illumination levels with good uniformity.

Luminaires are located so they can be accessed for relamping easily.  The outer rows can be accessed from the sides and the central rows can be accessed from the overhead gangway.

The same Luminaires are used to illuminate adjoining facilities including Basketball and Tennis Courts, a Sprint Track and a Jogging Track.

The IL Series is highly robust with IP65 sealing and lamps to 1000w Metal Halide or HPS.  It is widely used in Industrial and Warehouse applications, power stations, etc.  A special recessed version is used in the 80,000 seater Croke Park Stadium for the Stand illumination.

The Architects on the Belgard Road Retail centre in Tallaght, Dublin wanted to make an impact with the lighting. VeeLite, the lighting manufacturers in Waterford, produced and supplied the Large indirect reflector system to produce the dramatic effect shown.

This retail site now attracts the attention of passing motorists on one of Dublins busiest roads, which benefits the retail tenants including B&Q.

Several similar Projects have been supplied including Parkside Shopping Centre (with Superquinn) in PortLaoise.

Warehouse Aisle

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

In the Warehouse of Dairygold in Mitchelstown, Co Cork, the Aisles are illuminated with high output Racklyter luminaires with long life T5 lamps.  Each fitting has an integral Occupancy Sensors so they switch on instantly when someone passes underneath.  The adjustable time delay setting ensures the Luminaires stay on until the Aisle underneath has been vacant for a preset time.

With the lighting in each Aisle switched off for most of the day (even if the Warehouse itself is always busy), the Energy savings and payback are very significant. Options include narrow beam reflector, wide beam reflector and Emergency.

Recent installations include ABB, Johnson & Johnson, Merck Sharpe & Dohme, Glanbia, Cork Institute of Technology, etc.

Architectural Car Park

CityWest

The Citywest Business Campus on the outskirts of Dublin is home to many of Irelands high tech companies and is one of the most attractive business parks in the country. At several locations throughout the Park, ‘Merrion’ luminaires have been installed, typically on 7m Columns with a Black finish and with ‘Corinthian’ brackets.

Several hundred of these fittings have now been installed in this Park, as well as throughout Ireland including Hotels, Retail centres and for general road and street lighting.  The street light reflector system is very efficient and allows wide spacings to minimise capital cost, installation, energy, maintenance and clutter.

Wind & Solar Lighting

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

County Carlow Local Authority had a carpark to illuminate which was
used by Tourists and Locals for Walking and general sight seeing.  When these walkers returned to their carpark after dark, it was both a discomfort and a safety concern in finding their car.  It was not practical to connect to the electricity grid as the area was remote.

Instead a Stand alone Wind & Solar LED lighting system was installed, with automatic occupancy sensor control and a time delay mechanism to allow users to vacate the carpark slowly. With anticipated 2 hours of use per night and a 2 week battery backup, the system is designed for year round usage.
