Decorative Street lighting

Friday, June 25th, 2010

A new Decorative Street lighting system was installed along the Riverbank in Kilkenny.  This is one of the most attractive urban areas  in Ireland, with Kilkenny Castle providing an impressive backdrop.

The old lighting was replaced with new HPS Lanterns, but with a traditional appearance.  Lighting levels were significantly improved and the appearance of the new lighting enhances the centre of this tourist orientated heritage town.

With 8m decorative street light Poles, Avonnaise 75 brackets, and Vence Pendant Luminaires with a copper and black finish, the scheme has received much favourable comment. The Project was specified by the Local Authoritity and installed by the Airtricity contractors.

Parking & Road Lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

The Parking and Road Lighting in the Waterford Industrial Park provides car park lighting, roadway lighting  and illumination of the grass area between the road and the Building.

Post Top Versions of the Optra were specified by Varmings Consultant Engineers  and installed by Kentz. The Luminaire has the advantages of high light levels with wide Pole spacings and also full flat-glass cut-off to minimise glare and light spill.

Typically 4 Luminaires are needed to illuminate an area of 100m by 100m.  The Luminaire is now also available in a smaller version and with 97w LED optics.

Feature Lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Bespoke Feature Lighting was required for the Retail Centre at Charlesland, near Bray, County Wicklow.  The 4 Wand or Light Stick Luminaires supplied add a decorative feature to the entrance area as well as attracting the attention of passing traffic.

The Wand can be supplied in Stainless Steel or in other Metals. The Lens can be supplied in frosted or clear Polycarbonate. Typically supplied in a 4m overall height, but with an option of any height to 5m.  This Luminaire is also available  to operate with LED with colour changing as an option.

Restaurant Lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

The Restaurant lighting in this Garden Centre Project had to compliment a large skylight which flooded the Room with light.

The SoftBay Luminaires installed have acrylic prismatic diffusers throwing light in all directions, but mainly down.  With the Glass type appearance, the luminaire is very complimentary to the large Skylight.

The Softbays can be supplied with Compact Fluorescent lamps for low height restaurant lighting or in larger sizes for Retail Stores.

Facade Lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

The Facade lighting on this Multi-storey carpark in Drury Street Dublin was achieved using a continuous architectural Metal Profile (made-to-order) and a Fluorescent lighting system.

The optics were narrow beam to ensure that the light covered most of the higher area of the Building.

Retail Car park lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

For the Car park lighting at this Retail Outlet in Ennis, Co Clare., decorative streetlights and brackets were used with Constant Diameter Poles. All were supplied in a special RAL finish.

The Origin Luminaires  with brackets were installed 0.5m from the top of the Poles.  The same Luminaire but with different brackets were also supplied to the nearby Ennis Information Age Park.

The Luminaire is ideal for car park lighting or roadway lighting where a more decorative appearance is required.

Playground Lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Optra Luminaires were chosen for this Playground lighting project in County Donegal.   The main advantage is that each Luminaire  can illuminate a large amount of space and it was important to minimise the number of Poles.  Other advantages are that it has a flat glass cut-off to minimise glare and light spill and being of robust construction, is difficult to vandalise.

Good Playground lighting also reduces vandalism to the rest of the Playground (as good light levels tend to deter Vandals);  extends the opening hours and provides added safety and comfort to users.

The same Product is used for other External Amenity Lighting Projects and is available with LED optics as well as the traditional lamp types.

Feature Lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Architectural Feature lighting was a requirement at Ashtown in West Dublin. This is a new suburb built around the DART station. The new town centre is shown. Instead of using a standard road lighting system, the planners wanted to combine the lighting with a Feature.

The Forked Columns provided include some Floodlights for local illumination and give the new centre a distinctive appearance.

Workshop Lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

The Workshop lighting scheme at the FAS Training Facility in Waterford uses modern T5 electronic lighting.

Workshop lighting would usually deteriorate quickly because of dust/ dirt in the atmosphere.  These Racklyters have dust-tight optics to prevent this loss of light.  At the same time, they have vented gear sections to ensure the electronic gear remains cold and to achieve longer component life.

Unlike traditional (T8) Fluorescents, these Luminaires can punch more light downwards and with no flicker, they are better for eyesight and cause less fatigue and eye strain.  Lamp life is an average of 20,000 hours, so maintenance/relamping is also reduced.

In areas where there is little movement of traffic, such as Warehouse Aisles or Corridors, the Luminaire can be supplied with an integral Occupancy Sensor so the lighting is switched down when it is not required.

Recessed Downlights

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

The external recessed Downlighters at the entrance area to the Ramada Viking Hotel in Waterford provides a high level of  lighting.    As well as the safety and comfort factor, it distinguishes the entrance area from other (darker) parts of the Hotel and visitors know instantly where the main entrance area is located.

Using IP65 rated external recessed Downlighters and Compact Fluorescent lamps with a warm colour temperature, the lighting helps the Hotel to look inviting to passing traffic.

Decorative Street lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Decorative street lighting was installed at a residential scheme at Hainault Road in Foxrock. Although traditional in appearance, the scheme is efficient and uses Vence 150w HPS Luminaires, with Avonnaise 75 decorative brackets and 8m Heritage Columns, all in Black finish.

The Vence Luminaire is available in different sizes and has the option of Pendant mounting (as shown) or Post-top mounting.
Installations with Post-top mounting include Dun Laoghaire Golf Club or Dunboyne Castle Hotel in Co Meath.

Car Showroom lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

The Car showroom lighting shown here is achieved with only a few Softbay Luminaires.  The advantages are minimal installation initially and minimal maintenance and energy use over the lifetime of the Project.

The Luminaire provides uses a prismatic reflector system to ensure most light goes down but there is also approx 15% uplight and the entire room is illuminated.  The Luminaire is ideal for general Showroom lighting/retail lighting as it is more attractive than standard HighBay type lighting, has less clutter than Fluorescent lighting and the large Reflector/Refractor prevents glare.

Conference Hall Lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

The Hall lighting  in UCD’s O’Reilly Hall uses recessed Spectra Luminaires with dimmable Metal Halide lamps.   This Hall is well known for its graduation, conference and seminar activities. The Spectra lighting system was specified by VMRA and is ideal for Auditoriums and Conference Halls with high ceilings, as it can provide high light levels, has lamp wattages to 400w and has a choice of reflector systems and accessories.

Hurling Wall lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

The Hurling Wall lighting for St Martins GAA Club in  Co Wexford  was provided using S Series Floodlights.  This Sports Floodlighting provides high illuminated levels, but with minimum glare (especially as both sides of the Hurling Wall are used). The Flat glass Luminaires ensure the scheme is dark skies compliant and provides minimum intrusion to the neighbours.

Similar schemes have been installed in several GAA Clubs in recent years.

Large Car park lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

For large car park lighting projects, such as this Tesco in Lisburn, near Belfast, illumination with Supralite Luminaires is probably the most cost effective method of illumination.   Tesco have this Luminaire installed throughout numerous stores in the UK and Ireland.

This Luminaire combines high light levels with wide Pole spacings to provide excellent savings on Luminaires, Poles and installation (Bases, underground wiring, etc). Typically 4 Luminaires will illuminate an area of 100m x 100m to recommended car park lighting standards.  As well as the savings in Capital costs, there is the advantage of less clutter and there is more useable space for car parking.  The Project above in Northern Ireland uses HPS lamps but increasingly white light is required, especially as the new Metal Halide lamps offer virtually the same performance.

The Luminaire can also be seen with many of the other large multiples in the UK or Ireland including Asda, Morrisons, LIDL, Dunnes, etc.   A flat-glass architectural version of this Luminaire is also available.

Multi-storey Car park

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Parklite Luminaires are designed for busy multi-storey car park lighting projects where high light levels and the minimum number of Luminaires is required.   With minimum maintenance and relamping,  the light produced is a crisp white and like all Parklite schemes, there is minimum clutter.

Light.ie also provide LED lighting specifically for multi-storey car park lighting or for basement car park lighting projects.   For quiet car parks, such as in Apartment or Office complexes, we provide lighting with internal motion sensors so lighting is only switched when the car park is in use.   This has significant energy saving advantages and is ideal for Property Management companies trying to reduce annual electricity costs.

Golf Range Lighting

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

The Golf Driving Range lighting at the HQ of the Golf Union of Ireland at Maynooth, Co Kildare is a state-of-the-art facility.

The illumination for this Project consisted of a mixture of 2 Floodlight types and high vertical light levels, even at a distance of 250m. Consultant Engineers were PMC.
Luminaires were modified to install neatly to the Building and both Luminaire and Poles were supplied in a special RAL finish.

Other Golf Driving Range lighting Projects recently  supplied include Tramore, Co Waterford; Newry, Co Armagh; Glenlo Abbey Hotel, Galway; etc.

External Car park lighting

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

External car parking using the Trapez Series Luminaires are used in the upmarket  ’Information Age Park’ in Ennis, County Clare. These architectural luminaires were specified by VMRA Consultant Engineers and all Luminaires and lighting Poles were supplied in a specific RAL finish to match the Building.

Other Projects with the Trapez include GMIT in Galway, the Roscrea Golf Club in County Tipperary and UCC in Cork.

Food Processing Light

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Food Factory lighting  requires special Luminaires. Glass is forbidden as a breakage could contaminate food and machinery. Luminaires need to be dust and dirt tight and sometimes to be capable of being washed down.

The Luminaire used in Hilton Meats has the advantage of being dust and water tight, has an acrylic lens (which has passed a rupture test) and a protected lamp (nb. A Lamp which is not protected may break and burn through the lens). The control gear can be supplied as part of the Luminaire or can be remote (for easier access).

These advantages are in addition to the usual industrial lighting advantages including the high performance optics, the good uniformity at wide spacings,  the long life lamps (usually 20,000 hours +) and the maintenance friendly gear.

Similar Food processing lighting Projects have been completed for Wessex Foods in Norfolk, ABP in Shropshire, AIBP in Louth, as well as numerous other Food processing companies including Nestle, Dairygold, Cadburys, Glanbia, Avent, etc.

External Car park lighting

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

The external car park lighting at this Office Building in Letterkenny uses the high performance Optra luminaires.   Consultant Engineers Wallace Whittle specified the contemporary  Optra Luminaire as only 3  were required to illuminate the carpark, pedestrian and adjoining areas.

With full cut-off and significant anti-glare features, the Optra is ideal for built-up urban areas, providing high light levels at wide Pole spacings, yet is dark skies friendly and sensitive to adjoining properties.

Bollard Lighting

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Functional Bollard lighting was supplied to the European HQ of E-Bay in Dublin.  These Louvered Bollards provide high light levels at wide spacings and are of robust Aluminium and die Cast construction.  The road lighting  was with Altair Streetlight Luminaires.

All the  lighting was specified by leading Engineering Consultancy PMC.

Light.ie supply a range of Lighting Bollards including illuminated Wooden Bollards, Stainless Steel Bollards, and LED Bollards with or without internal motion sensor control.

Various options are available on request including various heights, finishes, aluminium or stainless steel, flanged or rooted, with or without illumination, with optional anti-vandal features, with LED optics, with emergency, with internal occupancy sensor control, with photocell, dimming, etc.

Corporate Car park lights

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

The worlds largest Bio-pharmaceutical Facility is at the Pfizer (Wyeth) site at Grangecastle, Dublin. The external car park lighting is substantial and uses the highly efficient Supralite Luminaires. Also supplied to this site were Street lighting Luminaires, decorative and functional Bollards, Warehouse lighting and Internal office lighting.

Specified by leading Engineering Consultants Jacobs, the Supralites have the economic advantage that only 4 are needed to illuminate an area of approx 100m by 100m.  This provides a saving on Luminaires as well as on Poles, installation (Bases, trenching, etc) and every year on energy and maintenance.  The small number of Luminaires needed also ensures that there is more spaces available for parking and the overall appearance is enhanced by a lack of column clutter.

Retail car park lighting

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

The large car parking lighting scheme at the M1 Retail Park near the Boyne Bridge in Co Louth uses Altair Luminaires.  The Altair is an architectural street light luminaire used in roadway or car park applications.  This is to compliment one of the most attractive retail centres in the country.

The architectural Luminaires  feature a white semi-transparent lens and Constant Diameter Poles.  The result of this and the uplighting on the Building is that the entire Complex is bought to life at night time and acts as a draw to passing traffc.

Hotel Car park lighting

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

The roadway lighting and car park lighting at the Carlton Hotel outside Kinsale is with Merrion Luminaires and Swan neck brackets.  Columns, brackets and Luminaires are all supplied in an architectural RAL finish to match the Building.

Specified by leading Engineers EDC, the Product was also used on the nearby Blarney Tower Hotel. Other Project types includes public Street lighting (eg.Tramore); corporate car park lighting (Citywest Campus); residential roadway lighting (Dunshaughlin); etc.

The efficient reflector system in this Luminaire results in a wide distribution of light, which ensures that the minimum number of Luminaires (and Poles and installation, trenching etc) is required.

Multi-storey Car park lights

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

The multi-storey car park lighting in some Projects is often the first impression a visitor will receive.  This can be important in some Buildings such as visitors to a Hotel, Retail complex, corporate building etc. Consulting Engineers R N Murphy, specified the ultra slim Round Parkdisc for the Clarion Hotel in the centre of Cork.  Unlike Linear Luminaires, the round Parkdiscs do not need to be orientated in a particular way to suit the driving lanes.

Options include Sensor control for switching off when the carpark is vacant as well as an emergency version.  This is particularly attractive for basement car park lighting schemes such as Apartment blocks or other low usage installations.

Sports Pitch lighting

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

The Sports Pitch lighting for Faythe Harriers which opened in 2009 was described by the Club as ‘exceeding all expectations’.

The new All Weather Pitch
is rented out to different clubs for training and matches so it accomodates soccer, rugby and gaelic football as well as hurling players.

The Sports lighting consists of 2Kw Flat glass Floodlights to minimise glare and light spill which is a concern for Clubs located in residential and built up areas.

Swimming Pool lighting

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

The Swimming Pool lighting at Youghal is iwith Wall Mounted architectural Floodlights. These provide both direct and indirect illumination. The Floodlights were specified by leading Consultant Engineers JODA.

With a bright ceiling, it is possible to use Floodlights directed the Ceiming to illuminate the Pool. If the Ceiling is darker or obstructed, the Floodlights can provide all or some of the illumination directly at the Pool, with a small percentage at the ceiling for effect.

The Floodlight itself is designed for outdoor usage so is ideal for the moist or wet interior of a swimming pool.

Indirect Pathway lighting

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Because of the Pathway lighting, Motorists who use the Kilkenny ring road are immediately alerted to the dramatic Smithlands Shopping Centre, which is anchored by Woodies and a Days Hotel.

Several of these Pathways which lead from the Perimeter and across the large carparks to the Building are illuminated with Palace Luminaires. These indirect fittings provide both a functional local lighting purpose and are an attractive reminder that the Complex is open for potential customers. The Consulting Engineers were Noel Lawlers in Kilkenny.  Origin Luminaires were used for the car park lighting and the entrance road lighting.

Retail Car park lighting

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Retail car park lighting can often be achieved with the use of only 1 Luminaire, even in car parks with up to 120 car park spaces, if the Luminaire is suitably efficient.

Using a Supralite Luminaire can illuminate an area of 50m x 50m.  Four Luminaires would light an area of 100m x 100m.

This saves on initial costs such as Luminaires, Poles, groundworks and concrete bases, underground wiring/trenching etc, and also ongoing costs such as electricity and maintenance.

Another benefit is the extra space provided by minimising Poles and the general improved appearance from reduction in clutter.

LIDL for example have used high performance Luminaires in many of their carparks (including Clonmel shown). Typically, only 1 Pole has been required in these small retail car parks.

Aircraft Hangar lighting

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

The Aircraft Hangar lighting at one of the largest Industrial Building in Ireland was achieved with SoftBay Luminaires. Manufactured in Waterford, the SoftBay is a highly efficient Luminaire which also provides typically 15% uplight to illuminate the ceiling.

The Hanger at the entrance to Dublin Airport is the largest at the Airport. It was previously called the TEAM or FLS Hangar.  Several of the other Hangars at the airport have recently been illuminated with our IL Series which is suitable for High Bay lighting Projects with heights from 8m to 50m.  This includes large Hangars for large Jets and smaller Hangars for private corporate Jets.
