The Car park lighting and the entrance road lighting at the 3 M1 and M4 Service Stations was provided using high performance Optra car park lights and R series street lights in 2010.
These were the first dedicated motorway service stations to open in Ireland. The locations are Lusk, Enfield and Castlebellingham, with identical facilities on both sides of the Motorway. The adjoining carpark areas are large and the fitting was chosen as the most suitable luminaire for these projects. This was mainly because of its wide spacings, high performance and flat glass cut-off to avoid glare or light spill. The Motorway is immediately adjacent to all 6 Service Stations.
In 2017, the new LED version of the Optra was introduced. This slimmer version is shown below at the Enfield M4 eastbound service station. The advantages are approx 50% energy saving and reduced maintenance as Life is typically up to 100,000 hours+. The slimmer LED version is also installed at the M1 Applegreen Services near Castlebellingham (Near Dundalk).
Wide spacings and minimum columns are available with the Optra. Typically 1 Luminaire will illuminate an area of 50m x 50m, or 4 Luminaires will illuminate an area of 100m x 100m, etc.
The Motorway Services at Gorey (M11) was illuminated with similar Luminaires and Moneygall Service Station lighting (M7) was illuminated with LED Street lights.
